What a Terrible Way to Live!

What a Terrible Way to Live
Matthew 25:14-30
Week of November 19, 2017

Community Time (10-20 min)
This is the final time that your Connect Groups will gather in this exact way.  Let your groups know about the Advent study that is coming in December on Sunday mornings, and that Connect Groups will start again in the new year.  We aren’t sure of the exact format of them, but we will still have them.  As your group gathers together, ask them to share how they would answer this question.

Ask: What’s the biggest leap of faith in God that you’ve had to make in your life?

Prayer and Accountability (20-30 min)
As your group prepares to share and pray together, have a brief discussion about how this practice of answering accountability questions and sharing has affected their walk with God.

After brief discussion, invite your group to share their responses to the measures questions:

Passion: Where did I see God today?
Accepting: How am I building diverse relationships?
Invitational: Who am I connecting with God’s family?
Trusting: Where does God rank?
Active: How am I engaged with God’s work?

Bible Study and Accountability (20-30 min)
Read: Matthew 25:14-30.

Ask: At first glance, how do you think about the master in this story?  What is the master like?

Ask: What is your picture of God derived from?  Is it from your personal experiences?  Is it from Scripture?  Is it from tradition?  Is it from culture?

It seems like a lot of us “feel bad” for the 3rd servant.  It might even seem like the master is tyrannical or quite unfair.

Ask: What is the problem of the 3rd servant?
What’s the problem with being a “harmless” Christian or “harmless” church?

Consider praying this prayer to close out your time today:

Pray: For boldness and courage to take risks in our faith and as a church as we close.
