Imitate: #Blessed

Luke 6:17-26
Week of February 17

Connect
Enjoy time getting to know those different and new members of your group.  Encourage everyone to get to know someone different each time that you gather.  As your group prepares to begin, start with this question:

When someone says that they are “blessed,” what do you think that means today?

Pray
I know you went over the Measures and their questions last week.  This week, you might want to consider talking about how the Measures can work in your group.  For instance, do people choose each week?  Do you focus on one of the questions each week and then come back to report on it?

Talk about the importance of praying together.  If your group is really large on a given night, it also might be best to pray and talk in pairs or threes.

Passion: Where did I see God today?
Accepting: How am I building diverse relationships?
Invitational: Who am I connecting with God’s family?
Trusting: Where does God rank?
Active: How am I engaged with God’s work?

Reflect
The following article was written in the New York Times in 2014 once the #blessed was being used by celebrities and others.  The article is interesting—if you want to send it ahead to your group you are more than welcome to do so:

Comparing Luke 6:20-26 and Matthew 5:3-12

-What is similar about these two passages?  What is different?

-Which passage is “easier to swallow?”

What does it mean to live a “blessed life”?
Is there anyone you know who truly lives like they are blessed?

Psalm 1 is also a great passage that talks about what it means to live blessed.  You can look at that together, or encourage the group to read it in the coming week.
