Imitate: Generous
Generous
Luke 6:27-38
Connect
As your group gathers, read the following 4 statements that
begin Jesus’ sermon:
Love your enemies.
Do good to those who
hate you.
Bless those who curse
you.
Pray for those who
mistreat you.
Which one of those is the hardest for you to do?
Pray
As we share and pray this week, encourage your group to
share how they did in pursuing the measures in the past week. Encourage them to continue in those or
discuss the others, and then talk intentionally about the measure of invitation as we think about what
generosity looks like.
Invitational: Who Am I
Connecting with God’s Family?
Reflect
Invite your group to share stories about people who they
would describe as generous in spirit.
Read together Luke
6:35-36.
“Instead, love your enemies, do good, and lend expecting
nothing in return. If you do, you will have a great reward. You will be acting
the way children of the Most High act, for he is kind to ungrateful and wicked
people. 36 Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.”
How is this a “constitution of the Kingdom?”
-Is this practical? Does God really expect us to live like this?
On Sunday we didn’t dive into the end of this passage. Together, look at Luke 6:37-38.
37 "Don't judge, and you won't be judged.
Don't condemn, and you won't be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good portion--packed down, firmly
shaken, and overflowing--will fall into your lap. The portion you give will
determine the portion you receive in return."
Why do you think judgment is such a difficult concept for
us?
A lot of people use the phrase “forgive and forget.” Is that possible? Is it biblical?
How does the generous apply to these verses?
